What do you do at BT?
“As a Client Director in BT Wholesale’s Mobile division, I lead our business unit serving the UK mobile industry.
“We bring BT’s technology and managed service capabilities to the wider communications market. The Mobile division has helped UK mobile network operators (MNOs; EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three) to build 3G and 4G networks – and now our main focus is 5G.
“I didn’t initially start out in tech; I went to university where I studied Applied Biology, and then got a job in Parliament. I then moved into technology, which I have loved ever since, and it led me to my current role at BT."
What’s the best thing about your job?
“Innovation. I’m totally invested in the underlying technology that shapes our world today. At its core, BT is in the same industry as Facebook and Google - and we’re all using the same technology, in different ways.
“It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. Think about being able to watch high definition videos on your phone; that technology didn’t just happen overnight.
“Change is constant, which means you’re always learning. At BT, we’re dedicated to driving innovation and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
What is your team working towards for this year?
“Mobile operations are crucial and the UK’s MNOs have a critical role to play in building communities and connecting the country.
“5G will get us there. And as a market leader, BT has developed an exciting strategy to propel us and the wider ecosystem forward, with four key pillars at its heart:
1. 5G at the Core
2. Professional and Managed Services
3. B2B Enterprise – Digital Transformation
4. Driving Ecosystem Innovation
“From bridging the digital divide with 5G innovation, to being a neutral host provider supporting other operators, BT is leading from the front – and I’m really proud to be part of it.”
What’s your proudest moment in mobile?
“Without a doubt, my first big sale. I think if you asked most people on my team this question, we’d all say a similar thing. You just can’t beat your first deal.”
What do you do outside of your work?
“I love sport, especially football and rugby.
“I’m a big West Ham fan – I come from Essex, where everyone supports ‘The Hammers’!
“For rugby, it’s Harlequins.
“My family and friends are incredibly important, and a big part of my weekends is spent socialising and having people over. I have two teenage daughters, I love spending lots of time with them.”
