The Microconnect Distributed Antenna network provides a mobile phone coverage and mobile phone capacity solutions for mobile operators. It offers seamless coverage at street level, so avoiding the communication black spots which often occurs in the shadows of buildings.
Microconnect is aimed specifically for town and city centres where deployment of traditional masts may be difficult. The antennas are small and discreet and utilise existing street furniture to help preserve the visual environment.
The network comprises of a series of small, low power antennas that are installed on existing street furniture such as lamp-posts, CCTV poles and which are linked by underground fibre-optic cable to the nearest BT exchange where the mobile operator's base station is located.
They are designed to be shared by all mobile operators simultaneously so potentially reducing the need for new individual installation in the future. This cost effective, flexible and high quality coverage solution is designed to overcome the problems associated with both 2G and 3G network build and rollout within dense urban environments.
