A BT Central Plus links BT’s broadband network and BT’s internet peering points (POPs) and aggregates and back-hauls End User traffic directly to the Internet. It provides a simple and complete solution for consumer broadband services and, depending on the charging option selected, is available for use with any BT IPstream End User product.
Because BT Central Plus offers both aggregation of End User traffic and internet connectivity via BT’s IP backbone network, Service Providers do not have to provide a separate internet connection or any IP infrastructure.
Unlike BT Central, BT Central Plus requires no customer accommodation to support the service as it provides direct Internet connection. Service Providers can specify up to 10 domain names, which can be used to customise service offerings, allowing Virtual ISP configuration, offered in conjunction with dynamic IP address allocation. The IP addresses will be allocated from BT’s address pool.
There are two charging variants: standard and capacity. The default is standard charging, and whichever option you choose will apply to all components of your BT IPstream service, including the End User Accesses. It is not possible to mix capacity and standard charging on your BT IPstream service.
Under the capacity charging option it is also possible to use the interface option - see below for further details.
BT Central Plus standard charging
BT Central Plus standard charging is sold in blocks of 5000 ports and will operate with BT IPstream 500 and BT IPstream Home End User products only.
Ports can be over booked up to a maximum of 6250 End Users sharing 5000 ports per instance of BT Central Plus and any attempted usage above this will be rejected. The service can easily be expanded by the purchase of additional blocks of 5000 ports which are added to the original domain name specified. Each port is dimensioned to provide internet connectivity to match the speed and contention of BT IPstream 500 and BT IPstream Home.
BT Central plus capacity charging
BT Central Plus capacity charging is used in conjunction with any BT IPstream End User Access option and is sold in two components both of which must be bought to provide an end-to-end service:
BT Central Plus - Access, providing a block of 100Mbit/s of capacity connecting BT IPstream End User Accesses to the BT Central Plus network.
BT Central Plus - Internet, providing a block of 100Mbit/s of capacity connecting BT IPstream End User Accesses via the BT Central Plus network to the Internet.
You may purchase different quantities of BT Central Plus-Access and BT Central Plus-Internet if required.
In order to opt into BT Central Plus capacity charging, you must purchase a minimum of 1Gbps of BT Central Plus - Access and 1Gbps of BT Central Plus - Internet. This is necessary to ensure efficient utilisation of IP addresses.
By opting for capacity charging, the BT Central Plus can be expanded or reduced (but not below the minimum capacity requirements) by adding or removing blocks of 100Mbit/s, providing that sufficient 100 Mbit/s blocks of BT Central Plus - Access capacity and BT Central Plus - internet capacity have been purchased to meet your traffic requirements, including any traffic peaks, at all times.
Please Note:
It is not possible for End Users on capacity charging to be connected to another Service Provider’s BT Central/BT Central Plus utilising the Limited Service Selection (LSS) capability of BT IPstream where the BT Central/BT Central Plus is charged at standard charging.
Service providers can interface their own equipment, co-located at a broadband PoP site, with their BT Central Plus. This option is available only under the BT Central Plus capacity charging pricing scheme.
Enabling Service Providers to access the traffic on their BT Central Plus provides the flexibility that already exists for Service Providers utilising classic BT Centrals. Service providers can introduce their own equipment which can drive the development of feature rich services for their End Users and provide control over their bandwidth demands.
Access to the BT Central Plus is provided by using the BT Wholesale Locate Venture product to create an enclosure at each Broadband PoP site for their equipment and the interface patch panels. The enclosure allows Service Providers to access and control their own equipment at each PoP site.
The interface is via multiple gigabit ethernet interfaces presented on a patch panel which presents ‘SC’ type fibre connectors. The patch panel itself does not restrict usage to a particular fibre type - that is, multi mode or single mode, even though BT normally uses multi mode. These presentations will be agreed at the time of order placement.
Further information is available in SIN 329
Service providers are not obliged to have a ubiquitous service. However if Service Providers wish to provide a nationwide feature set an enclosure will be required at every broadband PoP site.
For further information on placing an order for this product, please contact your BT account manager.
The standard provision lead time for a BT Central Plus link is 65 working days, subject to survey. Subsequent BT Central Plus blocks of 5000 ports have a standard provision lead time of 5 working days
The standard lead time for the interface option is 65 working days from our acceptance of the CRF. However, this lead time does not include the provision of the Service Provider’s enclosure at the broadband PoP sites, which is a pre-requisite and dealt with under separate agreement.
Full pricing information is available from the Service Provider Price List
There is no additional charge for the BT Central Plus interface option. However, a charge will be made for each customer enclosure at each broadband PoP site. These prices are available on application from BT Wholesale Locate Venture - please ask your BT Account Manager.
