Virtual Interconnect Circuit (VIC) was launched on the 1 July 2006. With the closure of Digital Local Exchanges (DLEs) under the 21CN programme, local rate calls will be physically delivered to a Next Generation Switch (NGS). However, VIC customers will continue to benefit from Local Exchange Segment (LES) rates. VIC gives you a LES rate ‘call minutes’ allowance, as detailed in a VIC Minutes Table. All call minutes within the allowance are rated at the favourable LES rate; those beyond the allowance attract an excess charge as per current Element Based Charging.
If you wish to expand your capacity and benefit from LES call charges at the NGS, you do not need to wait for DLE closure. VIC is an operationally efficient alternative to physical interconnects at DLEs, allowing you to optimise use of your multiplexers and interconnect routes, with less manual intervention of engineering resources and improved delivery lead times.
VIC is an important part of BT’s commitment to maintaining commercial stability as the company moves it’s interconnect services onto the new 21CN platform.
