Your own Fixed Channel Service provides you with low-speed data access to BT’s ISDN2e customers (via the ISDN2e D channel) and to ISDNconnect customers.
Typical applications are mainly transaction based and include:
- Credit card authorisation and loyalty card and stock control use.
- LAN router management (administration messaging and remote configuration).
- Security alarm monitoring.
- Telemetry (utility meter reading etc).
- Real-time distribution of news, financial and service information.
- Environmental control.
- Remote call centre operations.
- Service machine management (ATM and vending machines).
- Ticketing (transport, theatres etc).
- Always-on internet/intranet use for real-time email notification, browsing and web hosting.
- Interactive TV.
Fixed Channel services offer:
- Much faster access to remote systems - for example, credit card authorisation in less than three seconds in contrast to the 20 seconds of modems.
- Controllable costs through fixed price usage.
- Improved decision making and reduced downtime costs because information is provided in real time.
- Streamlined teleworking by giving home-based staff the same real-time facilities as office staff.
- Ubiquitous services - all locations can offer the same facilities regardless of size.
- Improved and more cost-effective LAN performance.
- Reduced resourcing costs as the manual checking of remote systems is eliminated.
- Fewer dialled calls and shorter calls. Dialled calls are made only when the data volume or speed required exceeds that available on the ISDNconnect service (2.4Kbit/s).
You should order the service via your account team or service management centre. Provision of the service will be in accordance with the FCSIL provision manual.
