The smartphone market has become even more convoluted today after Nokia and Apple both launched a new flagship handset in Britain.
The long awaited N97 from Nokia and the iPhone 3GS from Apple both hit the shelves amidst a number of boasts from the companies as to the prowess of their new devices.
Jonas Geust, vice president, heading Nokia Nseries noted that the N97 offers users "the most powerful, multi-sensory mobile computer in existence".
One of the defining features of the N97 that sets it apart from other smartphones is its slide-out qwerty keyboard as well as its 3.5" touchscreen.
The 3GS on the other hand is the upgrade to the iPhone 3G and offers a 3 GB camera (up from 2 GB on the previous model), a digital compass and a faster interface.
Recent research from industry analysts Gartner suggests that the iPhone almost doubled its share of the market year-on-year during the first quarter of 2009.
Nokia is, however, still the market leader overall, with RIM – the maker of the Blackberry – in second place.<br/>
