Millions of enterprises across the UK may receive a boost to their broadband following an announcement from BT.
The company is planning to more than double the headline speeds for both residential and business customers, meaning some will have connections of up to 20 Mb/s.
Improvements will come at no extra cost and the super-fast speeds will initially be available from 549 telephone exchanges, which serve over ten million homes and enterprises in the UK.
BT is planning to extend this coverage to 55 per cent by March 2010 to meet customer demand.
Gavin Patterson, chief executive officer of BT Retail said: "Unlike other providers, BT is upgrading customers to 20 Mb/s for free.
"High-speed broadband provides a faster and more reliable service that will transform the way we live, work, learn and play."
In other BT news, the firm is now providing an online Live Chat function for its customers as an easy way for them to get information, tips and advice.<br/>
