Netbooks popular due to 'variety of uses'

Netbook computers are becoming increasingly popular because they are so flexible, it has been suggested.

According to Ellen Murphy, PR manager at Dell, netbooks are being favoured over notebooks because they have a "variety of uses".

She noted that they can be used to complement higher-spec machines while users are out and about.

Ms Murphy also pointed out that the cost of a netbook is appealing to many consumers.

She said: "Some people will have bought a netbook [during the recession] because it is within their price range, whereas they might have gone for something more before.

"A lot of consumers are buying what they can afford and what suits their needs. If they can't afford what suits their needs then they might just wait a little bit longer so they can buy a notebook."

Dell is the world's second biggest provider of PCs and is number one in the US.
