BT has launched an initiative with Unicef to bring technology to schools in rural areas of China.
The aim of the project is to improve the quality of education received by the pupils in places of digital exclusion.
Around £500,000 is being invested by BT into the initiative, which will benefit 6,000 students and 1,700 teachers across four provinces.
Up to 40 schools will be provided with computers, internet access, multi-media projectors and other educational materials.
This represents the third phase of the £1.5 million Inspiring Young Minds programme launched by BT and Unicef.
Kevin Taylor, chief operating officer for BT Asia Pacific said: "Communications skills and technology can give individuals and communities everywhere the opportunity to improve lives and take part in the global economy."
In related telecoms news, BT and Nortel recently signed a new four-year global trading agreement to provide customers with solutions that give them "a competitive edge".<br/>
