iPhone competitor could be squashed in court

New iPod challenger the Palm Pre could be meeting its Apple rival in court, it has been suggested.

Palm has employed several of Apple's key ex-employees to help design and build the Pre and could now end up in court defending some of its technology, according to ITProportal.com.

Palm executive chairman Jon Rubinstein was keen to show off the company's iPhone challenger at the All Things Digital tech conference California on Thursday (May 28th), including its ability to sync directly with Apple's iTunes without additional software.

This feature could lead to animosity from Apple, with ITProportal.com reporting that a legal intervention is "very likely".

Before he unleashed the Palm Pre at D, Mr Rubenstein was asked about the difference between Palm and Apple. He told Cnet: "The difference is we're tiny. We're the real little engine that could."

Mr Rubenstein, who was a key member of the team which created the original iPod for Apple, was also asked what he head learned from his time with his main competitor, to which he replied: "I hope I've learned a little bit of taste. I've also learned how important great marketing is."<br/>
