Zune HD will not get UK release

Microsoft has announced the release of the second generation of its Zune Mp3 player.

The device, which will now be high definition (HD), is a direct competitor to Apple's iPod touch, but will not be released in the UK for the foreseeable future.

Features for the new Zune model will include a touchscreen display, WiFi, HD video out and HD radio and web capabilities.

The Zune brand will also be integrated into the Xbox live platform, offering Xbox 360 owners more downloadable content, including television programmes and films.

Microsoft executive Chris Stephenson said: "The Zune experience is growing beyond a music player in the US. Zune’s international expansion starts with video on Xbox Live; eventually we'll offer the full digital entertainment experience spanning screens, devices, platforms and geographies."

More details about Microsoft's new iPod challenger will be released at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles next week.<br/>
