Netronome develops new network hardware security chip

A new chip has been unveiled which could improve the security of a company's network hardware.

Developed by Netronome, the NFP-32xx line of network flow processors(NFPs) enable routers, security systems and servers to secure and analyse data over the network.

Up to 56 billion instructions can be undertaken every second. With speeds of up to 1.4 GHz, Netronome claims the chips can manage every data package travelling through a 20 Gbit/s pipeline.

Bill Duggan, NFP product manager at Netronome, said: "It gives you an incredibly powerful device in a small footprint.

"By integrating these capabilities we can reduce the number of extra devices in a design."

In the future, he predicts that the chips could be useful for firms looking for built-in management capabilities.

Meanwhile, an expert from Microsoft has recently expressed his opinion on cloud computing, suggesting that businesses are being cautious about adopting the solution because it is unfamiliar to them.<br/>
