More businesses adopt VoIP in 2008, website reports

There was a noticeable increase in the number of businesses adopting voice over-internet protocol (VoIP) technology in 2008, one website has reported.

According to vnunet.com, unified communications and video conferencing continued to grow in popularity over the course of the year.

It is thought this could be as a result of the worsening economic climate meaning that good communications between management and clients became increasingly important for businesses.

Many were also looking for ways to minimise their travel and telephone bills by using these applications.

Vnunet.com wrote: "To cope with the rise in demand for capacity and reliability, service providers and telecoms companies invested heavily in next-generation networks, including wired and wireless services."

With more companies adopting VoIP, a warning was issued by Fortify Software advising them to be aware of hackers trying to use the system to breach security.<br/>
