ISPs 'still overcharging customers', survey finds

Some internet service providers (ISPs) are still overcharging their customers meaning many consumers are being hit with unexpected costs, it has been found.

Research from Moneysupermarket.com discovered that 27 per cent of broadband users are still being asked to pay charges they were not expecting.

This adds up to an average of £36 a year, Compute Active reports.

James Parker, mobile and broadband manager at Moneysupermarket.com, said: "Although we've seen telecom bills fall in the past year, providers are still clawing back millions with unnecessary charges, many of which are unfair."

Some of the charges included paper-billing, non-direct debit payments, late payment, installation, help line or technical support, activation fees and exceeding download limits.

Ofcom recently announced that it is to introduce new small print laws which will prevent ISPs from charging their customers for things which are not made clear in a "prominent and transparent" way.<br/>
