Verizon develops undersea cable meshing in 2008

In 2008 Verizon continued to develop undersea-cable meshing, expanding on the original Atlantic network it first launched two years ago.

The company completed a seven-way diverse transpacific mesh in September which saw nodes being implemented in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea to add to those already in Japan.

This can help to provide multiple alternate paths for rerouting traffic if there is a network interruption.

It is also hoped that the Asia-Pacific mesh will increase network availability.

Fred Briggs, executive vice president of network operations and technology for Verizon Business, said: "The Verizon global network is the foundation for offering solutions that help organisations better achieve their missions."

He added: "Our global customers know they can depend on us to serve their needs by delivering reliability, scalability, capacity and speed, year after year."

In related news, Verizon recently advised firms to adopt unified communications to integrate systems into their business processes.<br/>
