Employees are facilitating the entry of consumer technology into the workplace, according to a new study by the Yankee Group.
According to the high-tech industry analyst, some 74 per cent of respondents indicated that they use consumer technology for work purposes; 52 per cent claimed they had introduced colleagues to other technologies.
It also suggested that software-as-a-service is being adopted by a growing proportion of medium-sized businesses, with 60 per cent now using or evaluating some form of the delivery platform.
Susan Coakley, senior vice president of client experience at Yankee, said: "In tough economic times, data is crucial to drive strategic business decisions."
She added that SMS remains the most popular data service among mobile users (45 per cent using the tech on a weekly basis), much more so than emails (12 per cent), internet browsing (11 per cent), GPS directions (five per cent) and banking transactions (three per cent).
In December, Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards welcomed plans for the roll-out of a new super-fast fibre-optic broadband service across the UK by Virgin Media.
