Verizon improves IP moves for businesses

Verizon is making it easier for businesses using traditional data services to make the move to internet protocol (IP).

To do this it has enhanced its Private IP-Layer 2 service which helps firms to realise the key benefits of the Private IP-Layer 3 service, including multi protocol label switching performance and traffic-engineering capabilities.

The company claims that this allows it to meet the needs of a business market with a global private IP network infrastructure.

Vice president networking solutions for Verizon Tom Roche said: "Companies today are looking to tune up their networks to work harder and Private IP-Layer 2 can extend the capabilities and return on investment of an existing data infrastructure."

He also said that a "tipping point" had been reached where IP now provides a clear competitive advantage.

Verizon recently became the first telecoms company to be certified as ISO/IEC 20000-compliant for its Government Network Operations and Security Centre.<br/>
