FACT: ISPs must join the fight against piracy

One organisation has called for internet security providers to work with officials to clamp down on piracy on the internet.

The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) claims that more needs to be done by law enforcement and therefore ISPs need to cooperate to target the criminals who are making illegal files available for people to access.

Eddy Leviten, head of communications at FACT, said that ISPs "control the gateways to the internet" and therefore need to work with the government as it is not the people purchasing the knock off DVDs who need to be prosecuted.

It is estimated that £16.5 million worth of album sales are lost every year because of piracy.

A BSA study also found that 13,622 new jobs could be created in the UK if piracy was reduced by ten per cent and £4.42 billion would be contributed to the British economy.<br/>
