Remote Service Technology 'Increases Efficiency'

Service firms are increasingly choosing to implement remote product solutions in order to increase the efficiency of their organisation, while delivering better service and increased availability to their customers, according to Aberdeen.

The research company found that firms with such solutions in place are able to improve their serviceable asset availability by as much as 21 per cent on average, adding that leading service firms are likely to view remote monitoring solutions as a competitive differentiator.

"Over the last year, we have seen a near 41 per cent increase in the percentage of assets being monitored remotely," said Sumair Dutta, a research analyst at Aberdeen.

"However, the overall percentage of assets being monitored remotely is still relatively low at 16 per cent and continues to reflect a large opportunity in terms of the overall maturity in the remote product service space."

The report also revealed that best-in-class service firms are twice as likely as all others to use remotely captured data to aid their technicians in diagnosing potential issues with services and identifying resolutions.

According to manufacturing consultant SSI Partners, remote service technology allows equipment manufacturers to implement value-added services and enhance the solutions portfolio they provide to their customers.
