20 August 2008
Shipments of printers, copiers and multifunctional products totaled 23.8 million units in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) during the first half of 2008 - a 2.2 per cent rise over the same period in 2007.
That is according to research from analyst Gartner, which suggests that the prevailing economic situation has brought about some caution among businesses, but that overall growth is being bolstered by increased shipments in emerging markets.
Hewlett-Packard, Canon, Epson and Brother were the leading vendors, accounting for over 80 per cent of the market collectively.
"The results for the first half of 2008 showed single digit growth across the print markets in EMEA, with second quarter results showing signs of an economic slowdown, which could continue into the rest of the year," warned Tosh Prabhakar, senior research analyst at Gartner.
One market that remains stubborn to mounting economic pressure is for microprocessors. Earlier this month, analyst IDC reported that worldwide shipments grew by 16.1 per cent year-over-year in the second quarter to reach record levels.<br/>
