Social Networks Open Up Graduate Recruitment

A new generation of graduates entirely comfortable with using social networks, have possession of a powerful new tool for engaging with employers, it has been claimed.

According to Graduate Prospects, which works to bring together graduates and recruiters, social networking is an extremely useful source of job leads, and is becoming more so all the time as such sites expand into the professional world.

Jayne Rowley, publishing director of the organisation, said: "The more resources a graduate can identify, the more choice they are giving themselves. Networking is a very useful source of leads for jobs.

"As the social networks extend their reach in to professional areas, the Facebook generation will feel entirely comfortable engaging with employers in this way in the future."

According to figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency, more than 2.3 million people were enrolled in UK higher education institutions in 2006/07, with postgraduate enrollments increasing by three percent and undergraduate enrollments by one percent on the previous year.<br/>
