BCS Announces New IT Industry Awards

The British Computer Society (BCS) has announced two new categories that will be included in this year's IT Industry Awards, recognising excellence in research and green technology.

The Green Organisation of the Year award will allow businesses to demonstrate the ways in which they are using IT to reduce their organisation's environmental impact.

The Excellence in Research and Development award, meanwhile, will recognise the value of research conducted by universities and commercial enterprises in the UK and Europe.

The BCS awards are now made up of 24 different categories, each aiming to recognise excellence in a key area of the IT industry.

David Clarke, BCS chief executive, said: "The awards provide a showcase for the profession as a whole to gain the recognition it deserves in a world where technology has become integral to everyday life and business."

In other news, the British Software Association (BSA) reached an out-of-court settlement with a Greater Manchester-based company, following an investigation into its alleged use of pirated software. Last month, the association announced that 11 companies in Manchester were under investigation.<br/>
