Internet 'Opening Up Graduate Opportunities'

The internet has made it easier than ever before for graduates to see the full range of opportunities that are open to them after university, it has been claimed.

Graduate Prospects, an organisation dedicated to bringing students, graduates and recruiters together, explained that the growing number of online job boards and application systems have contributed towards the accessibility of different opportunities.

Jayne Rowley, publishing director of the organisation, said that graduates could now also use the internet to research companies before they apply, helping them to perform better during interviews.

"It's not so much the numbers of opportunities that have grown, as much as the accessibility of them," she said.

"Sophisticated search technology and RSS mean you can tailor your job search requirements and get exactly the information you need to your inbox, to your mobile and even to your Facebook account."

Recently, the British Computer Society (BCS) called on employers to do more to encourage female graduates to pursue careers in IT. As of 2004, women made up just 14 per cent of the BCS' membership.<br/>
