Global SCM Software Market 'Grew Strongly' in 2007

The worldwide market for supply chain management (SCM) software posted revenues of $6 billion (£3.1 billion) in 2007, up 17.6 per cent over the previous year's revenue of $5.1 billion (£2.6 billion), it has been claimed.

According to research from Gartner, the market witnessed a four per cent increase in growth rate during 2007, the increase driven by businesses rediscovering the importance of supply chain technologies to bringing about greater customer and supplier satisfaction.

Chad Eschinger, research director at Gartner, explained: "SCM technologies are well-positioned to address the economic realities facing worldwide markets where costs are skyrocketing while competition and customer demands are intensifying."

He also pointed out that there is a growing need for vendor services to help support, improve or tune applications to meet business needs and processes. Gartner reported that consolidation continued among business application and SCM vendors in 2007, with 25 significant acquisitions.

Earlier this year, IDC published a report suggesting that some 32 per cent of European organisations are considering investing in software-as-a-service (SaaS) SCM solutions over the next 24 months.<br/>
