There will be some 32 million subscribers to LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks by 2013, despite the fact that the first commercial deployments of the fourth-generation mobile broadband standard will not go live until 2010.
That is according to ABI Research, which noted that the standard has backing from some of the largest global mobile operators, and will be picked up, predominantly, in Asia-Pacific countries and Western Europe.
Because LTE deployments require new hardware and software, the research company added that a number of different industry sectors will benefit from its adoption, including vendors of test equipment used to ensure network interoperability.
Meanwhile, ABI Research also predicted that some 53 million LTE-enabled USB dongles for computers will ship by 2013. It estimated that the new service will compete directly with cable and DSL services.
Earlier this month, the company forecast that 2.4 billion units of Bluetooth-enabled equipment will ship worldwide in 2013, over half of which will be mobile handsets.<br/>
