IT Security 'to Witness Major Changes'

The market for security software will experience major changes over the coming years, driven by new technologies such as web 2.0 solutions, mobility and virtualisation, it has been claimed.

According to analyst IDC, such trends will add to the complexities and possibilities to internet crime, requiring chief information security officers to remain vigilant in their fight against internet crime and pursuit of regulatory compliance.

"The market for security software is one of the most interesting and dynamic markets today," said Per Andersen, managing director of IDC Nordic and Benelux.

"Not only is it a fast growing market, but it will also experience some very fundamental changes over the next five years, driven by new technologies and solutions such as web 2.0, mobility, and virtualisation."

According to IDC, managed and hosted security services will boom in the future, becoming a significant alternative to traditional security products, and providing further compliance and archiving benefits.

According to data protection company Websense, some 90 per cent of organisations were targeted by hackers last year, with one in three companies finding spyware installed on their networks.<br/>
