Businesses Expected to Respond to all Communication Immediately

Clients and customers of businesses expect to have an immediate reply to any inquiry as a result of modern communication technology

That is according to author Matthew Beaumont, who has asserted that as internet communication methods are now so fast, accessible and sophisticated people have been "spoilt" into "thinking they can have an instant response to absolutely anything".

Beaumont, who wrote 'e: The Novel of Liars, Lunch and Lost Knickers', which is made up entirely of business emails, said: "Everything is on the internet and it has got faster and faster as a means of communication and as a means of getting information."

His views were echoed by Vodaphone, which suggested that it a growing awareness of mobile internet access has increased demand for speedier responses.

Mobile Email Expert Bryony Clow explained: "It is a combination of this instant gratification society, coupled with the fact that people know mobile email is out there and other people responding in meetings or when they are out of the office.

"There is no excuse these days for not getting back to someone within the hour just to say 'yep, got your email. I'll get back to you soon'."
