Mobile Broadband USB Sticks Increasingly Popular

The use of mobile broadband USB sticks has become increasingly widespread, new findings have indicated.

According to research conducted by Top 10 Broadband, the surge in popularity has been caused by a drop in the cost of data.

The comparison website noted that data charges in the UK are now roughly £3.50 per Gbyte.

In 2006, a Gbyte cost approximately £45.

Jessica McArdle, a spokesperson for Top 10 Broadband, observed that while being cheaper, data packages are now also faster and, in terms of download allowance, more inclusive.

As such, mobile broadband is now no longer seen as a luxury, McArdale said.

She suggested that mobile phone operators could start to include mobile broadband dongles with standard deals as well as fixed phone deals by as early as next year.

McArdale went on to say that the use of mobile broadband USB sticks is very similar to the way in which mobile phones suddenly became very popular in the middle of the last decade.

She commented: "Competition is reaching its zenith in the mobile broadband market."
