New version of SVC released by IBM

The latest version of IBM's storage virtualisation software has been released.

System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) 4.3 has been updated to include FlashCopy and virtual disks. As a result, interoperability is improved.

Both virtual disks and FlashCopy use virtual disk monitoring, which allows two copies of the same disk to be stored on different systems.

In addition, the software will help firms to pinpoint files which are not accessed very often, thus allowing them to move said files onto less expensive storage systems.

Commenting on the updated SVC, Barry Rudolph, vice president of storage stack solutions at IBM, said that it is hoped that it will provide a boost for many businesses.

He said: "IBM is dedicated to helping its clients improve their information infrastructures through powerful virtualisation technology.

"This latest version from IBM further showcases our innovation and represents our commitment to clients to incorporate green, efficient technologies into our storage portfolio to help clients manage the data centre crisis of today."<br/>
