In the future, IT projects will increasingly come to be judged on whether they add real business value to an organisation rather than on their ability to improve an IT service, it has been claimed.
According to the British Computer Society (BCS), IT already has a crucial role in business, but it is set to advice those in attendance at this week's GC Expo 2008 in London that soft business skills are just as important as technology skills within the IT industry, Computer Weekly reports.
Adam Thilthorpe, head of the BCS Professionalism initiative, told the website that IT has a role in business today that would be unimaginable 20 years ago.
"With technology at the heart of business, IT projects will now be judged on whether they support business strategies," he added.
Last month, speakers at a BCS-organised workshop called upon IT managers to foster the business benefits of IT professionalism so that it can properly embed in their organisations and deliver real business value.<br/>
