Lack of Web 2.0 Understanding 'Poses Security Risks'

A study revealing that nearly half of business managers in the UK do not understand the benefits of web 2.0 comes as little surprise, a web 2.0 security specialist has claimed.

WorkLight said that the recent study conducted by staff training firm Parity and Bournemouth University highlighted that many IT managers are not qualified to implement web 2.0 services in a way that best delivers business value.

According to Onrec.com, David Lavenda, VP of marketing at WorkLight, said: "Embracing the B2B and B2C benefits of web 2.0 services such as Facebook and MySpace is something that requires a thorough understanding of Web protocols and usage patterns.

"Many managers simply have not had the experience or training required," he added, noting that business managers who rush their firms onto social networking sites without understanding the technology could face harsh security consequences.

WorkLight recently urged companies to ensure that they have enterprise technology solutions in place that provide personalised social networking tools built on top of public web 2.0 services, in order to better protect the network.<br/>
