Telcos 'Must Develop IP Platform Strategies'

With IP-based services continuing to interest enterprises and consumers, global telecoms executives are beginning to appreciate that they will need to develop an IT strategy in order to secure future revenue growth for their organisations.

That is according to a survey by VoIP provider Jajah, which indicated that many telecoms providers are unsure as to how best approach internet-based services, vnunet.com reports.

Phil Kendall, director of Strategy Analytics' global wireless division, told the website that IP platforms are now coming to maturity and many traditional organizations have still not defined their market strategy.

He said there is growing pressure of chief executives to focus on new forms of communication and voice-bundled services because these are what enterprise customers and individual consumers are coming to demand.

Recently, the Internet Telephony Services Providers' Association (ITSPA) claimed that basic mobile handsets with internet functionality will soon be available to customers that allow for voice over IP (VoIP) calls to be made over wireless networks.<br/>
