Enterprise Directors to be Issued Security Guidelines

The Information Security Awareness Forum (ISAF) has announced plans to publish a series of Director Guides in order to raise awareness of data security issues in IT organisations.

The guides are intended to educate company management about IT security risks, and are written in easy-to-understand language, based on information gathered from the ISAF's member firms.

Lars Davies, chief executive of compliance advisory firm Kalypton, one of the firms involved in the creation of the Directors Guides, said that they provide insight into the many different legal and regulatory obligations of key staff at organisations.

"For too long, directorships have been viewed as positions of entitlement. They are not. The guides as a whole clearly show that directors and senior managers must address a wide range of issues and seek answers to a number of important questions," IT Director reports him as saying.

First launched in February 2008, the ISAF was designed to raise awareness among organisations about the importance of proper data security, following a string of high profile security breaches in the UK last year.

Its members include the BCS, the CMA, GetSafeOnline, ISC2, and the Information Assurance Advisory Council.<br/>
