Web Projects Missing Budgets and Deadlines

A quarter of web projects fail to meet their budgets, while 31 per cent also miss deadlines, a new report has revealed.

Surveying 100 UK IT managers on behalf of custom web software specialist New Bamboo, analyst Vanson Bourne found that 24 per cent of projects were not delivered within budget, with five per cent of respondents admitting final costs were unknown.

IT managers blamed failing web development projects on the changing of requirements, too many stake holders to please, and unrealistic budget and time demands.

Damien Tanner, co-founder of New Bamboo, said: "Rigid requirements make it difficult to react to the changes that inevitably occur as knowledge and environments evolve. Requirements that have been omitted are generally picked up late in the process - by which time they are awkward and costly to implement."

The survey also revealed that half of web projects are run by in-house development teams, while 28 per cent are outsourced to third parties.

Recently, a survey by Vanson Bourne revealed that just 15 per cent of mid-market enterprises have confidence in their business continuity plans, the vast majority fearing that their plans would not work.

The survey of 200 companies revealed that over half of UK firms have not fully tested their business continuity plans, with 18 per cent admitting to no testing whatsoever.<br/>
