Enterprises 'beginning to adopt videoconferencing'

Although the technology is by no means new, videoconferencing is beginning to attract real interest within enterprises, new research has suggested.

A survey by application performance management provider NetScout indicated that some 85 per cent of organisations either use or are planning to use videoconferencing, IT Week reports.

Furthermore, the research revealed that 41 per cent are also using, or are interested in using telepresence, high-end videoconferencing solutions that allow for greater levels of virtual interaction.

The main reason cited by respondents for the use of such technologies was a reduction in travel costs. While 71 per cent planned to run videoconferencing services over a converged network, 13 per cent said they would implement a dedicated Video over IP network.

Last month (April), NetScout announced the launch of nGenius K2, a program providing IT professionals with a high-level view of the state of their applications and services, and rapid network problem diagnosis tools.
