IT security professionals 'focusing on business goals'

Information security managers are increasingly being required to focus on business targets rather than technological requirements, a new survey has revealed.

According to the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), IT security professionals are also finding more opportunities to advance within their organisations as security becomes more closely aligned with business goals.

The association found that 40 per cent of information security professionals expect their next career move will be into an executive management roll, while an additional 40 per cent intend to take up the position of chief information security officer (CISO).

Lynn Lawton, international president of the ISACA, said: "The role of information security management is quickly evolving to direct the use of technology to solve or prevent business problems instead of being a purely technical specialisation."

The research also indicated that more than three quarters of information security managers are now responsible for certain aspects of risk management, up from 55 per cent in a previous survey.

Recently, the Computer Technology Industry Association reported that IT managers are still concerned about the security threats posed by remote working and mobile devices, with over half of chief information security officers saying their concern has increased over the last year.<br/>
