SMEs 'to gain from IT outsourcing'

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) could transform the way that their businesses operate by outsourcing IT to ensure that business-critical applications are correctly installed, it has been claimed.

According to outsourcing company ITlab, most SMEs are utilising a number of different important applications, but have implemented no way for these to share together business information.

"This is not helping the business and is a bit like every member of a team speaking a different language," he continued," said Dominic Monkhouse, managing director of the company.

"But if all this data is pulled together in one system it makes it easier to use, saves time and money, helps with reporting and ensures people can work from anywhere globally."

He added that companies who choose to outsource their IT in order to reach such ends are able to increase sales by up to 40 per cent while cutting operations costs by up to 70 per cent.

It was recently reported that software piracy dropped by one per cent in the UK last year, placing it with one of the lowest piracy rates in Europe.

According to the Business Software Alliance, the amount of illegal PC software fell to 26 per cent in 2007, with losses as a result of piracy totaling £925 million.
