Innovation 'key to IT'

With the current prevailing economic uncertainty, technology leaders feel that they are required by their organisations to deliver innovation that will enhance competitiveness, a survey report has revealed.

Questioning 360 chief information officers (CIOs) in the UK, recruitment firm Harvey Nash found that technology innovation is seen as a way to increase competitive advantage and entry into new markets, although IT is still expected to improve operational efficiency as well.

Some 65 per cent of respondents claimed to have seen significant improvements to internal processes, such as cost reductions and increased efficiency, as a result of innovative projects, IT Pro reports.

According to the website, Bryan MacDonald, director of Harvey Nash, said that innovation collaboration is happening more frequently and is beneficial to the IT industry, including suppliers and customers.

In other news, Computer Weekly reports that Rackspace Hosting, a provider of IT data hosting services, has built a green datacentre in Berkshire, which will be powered by sustainable energy sources, from the UK's largest dedicated bio-mass energy plant.
