Browser security virtualisation software released

A security software firm has released a new internet browser virtualisation product that attempts to prevent PC users from downloading code that could damage their system or a company network.

ZoneAlarm ForceField, from Check Point, provides a virtualised layer of security between the browser and the internet, so that the browser runs in its own container, restricting contact with malware, much in the same way as other products available.

However, John Gable, director of product management for ZoneAlarm, explained to InternetNews.com, that <br/>ZoneAlarm ForceField is also extremely simple to use and takes up less than 5MB of storage space.

"Additionally ForceField includes much more than virtualization, to provide users with more robust security. In fact, ForceField includes seven layers of security - including antiphising, anti-spyware, and key logger jamming," he added.

Earlier this month, a report from internet oversight body Icann suggested that business leaders are underestimating the importance of the internet to their businesses and the threat that web-based attacks pose.

Beyond spam, phishing and malicious code, Icann explained that the internet environment also opens up enterprises to the threat of corporate espionage and more delicate supply chains, particularly for the online delivery of software applications, which are being neglected by non-technology executives.
