Telecoms systems manufacturer Avaya has claimed that small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) lose as thousands of pounds every year due to staff absenteeism.
The business communications specialist found that a fifth of businesses with 20 to 80 employees estimate losses caused by absenteeism of at least £25,000, while a third estimated losses in the region of £10,000 to £25,000.
It suggested that these companies deploy technologies such as Unified Communications (UC) to ensure that there is a communications environment in place that allows for flexible working and a better work-life balance, Computer Weekly reports.
According to the website, Nick Roullier, UK country manager of Avaya, said: "It is a popular misconception that Unified Communications (UC) is for big business only.
In reality, if you look at a typical busy SMB where employees are performing multiple job functions, UC can deliver concrete business advantages that are even more meaningful to a small business – improved productivity and increased ability to compete with bigger brands."
Avaya recently announced that it is to focus its efforts more exclusively in the UC space in the future. The company claimed that sixty per cent of its patent portfolio is now in the field of unified communications.
Across the globe, Avaya has nearly 4,400 patents issued and pending for various business communications solutions.
