Google announces hosted security product for enterprises

Continuing its rollout of web-based enterprise applications and services, Google has revealed a new security product which protects organisations from web-based malicious code.

Google Web Security for Enterprise is based on Postini technology, which Google acquired for £320 million last year, and provides real time malware protection and URL filtering for all network users, including remote workers and guests.

"One of the benefits of Google Apps is the protection it provides for communication and collaboration within businesses," said Scott Petry, director of product management, Google.

"Now companies can extend that protection to more of their users' Internet activities, whether they're surfing the web at the office or the airport."

As well as securing networks from web-based malware threats, Google Web Security also enables enterprises to enforce their internet usage policies at user, workgroup and organisational levels, and issues full reports on all web activities.

Last month, Google announced a deal with software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider Salesforce.com to provide enterprises with the firm's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications as part of the Google Apps suite of hosted services.<br/>
