Demand for collaboration 'driving DAM market'

The global market for Digital Asset Management (DAM) solutions rose to $330 million (£169 million) in 2007, driven by increasing demand for enterprise-wide collaboration, it has been revealed.

According to ABI Research, the DAM market, which includes software and hardware solutions for the storing, organising and distributing of digital media files, will reach $1 billion (£513 million) by 2013.

"There are a number of factors acting together to drive the Digital Asset Management market," explained Zippy Aima, an industry analyst at ABI Research.

"Apart from the sheer dramatic increase in the amount of digital media assets, one important driver is the need for different departments of an organisation to have a seamless workflow in handling the same library of digital content."

ABI Research explained that DAM began in the print industry, before spreading out to marketing departments, media and entertainments, but can now be found in a wide range of enterprises including finance, education, retail and manufacturing.

According to interactive technology agency DPCI, DAM vendors are now working to open up web services to the market.

Joseph Bachana, president of the company, wrote on CMS Watch that enterprises are keen to integrate Digital Asset Management into other systems, such as Web Content Management and Customer Relationship Management.
