Thomson Reuters Signs Up for BT WAN

Telecoms company and networked IT services provider BT has announced a new agreement with Thomson Reuters to manage the company's wide area network (WAN) as part of an eight year outsourcing deal.

The media company, which was formed last month following The Thomson Company's acquisition of news agency Reuters, will see its existing WAN transformed into a high-speed IP based infrastructure across 323 locations in 100 countries.

François Barrault, chief executive of BT Global Services, said: "As a business operator, we run their non-core but mission-critical network and IT services, so Thomson Reuters can focus on their core business and customers.

"Their environment is one where absolute reliability in every millisecond counts, and we are very proud to have their confidence. It's a testament to the excellent work of our teams in a very challenging world."

The deal follows a 2005 agreement between BT and Reuters to transform and manage the global network used by the news agency to deliver services to more than 330,000 financial market professionals.

Recently, BT announced a new partnership with Siemens Enterprise Communications, a provider of Open Communications software and services for enterprises, to offer converged communications solutions to businesses.<br/>
