IT directors 'delaying Windows Vista rollout'

Only a few UK IT directors are planning to install Windows Vista in their organisations this year and some are considering waiting for Microsoft's next operating system before changing, it has been revealed.

A survey of FTSE 250 firms by IT management user group TIF indicated that over 40 per cent of IT respondents had no plans to deploy the operating system.

The survey revealed that the perceived complexity of the system is the main barrier preventing larger uptake, while many were concerned their existing applications would not be compatible with Vista, Computer Weekly reports.

According to the website, Ollie Ross, head of research at TIF, said: " Many IT departments have only just upgraded to Windows XP - and are considering skipping Vista altogether."

However, analyst Ben Gray, of Forrester Research, believes that businesses will soon be forced to upgrade to Vista when Microsoft ceases distributing XP to retailers and manufacturers at the end of June 2008, PC World reports.<br/>
