SMEs using mobiles to secure added business

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are using mobile technology to keep up to date with customer demands and cope with increasing competition, it has been revealed.

New research from Research In Motion (Rim), the company that makes the BlackBerry, revealed that 48 per cent of SME owners are utilising mobile solutions to acquire new business, while a further 69 per cent said that they had reduced customer response times through increased mobility.

IT Pro reports that Sarah Probert, marketing director of large enterprise and SME for Europe at Rim, explained the shift in SMEs turning to mobile solutions as part of their growing competition with larger enterprises.

"With this research we wanted to understand how SMEs are using technology in their businesses today. What we've found is that there is a trend towards the adoption if mobile technology. They feel the need to be more responsive than larger enterprises," she said, according to the website.

Meanwhile, BT recently announced that it will be increasing its presence in the software-as-a-service (SaaS) market with two new partnerships that will provide SMEs with standard hosted business apps.

It will offer integrated business management software from NetSuite, as well as new customer relationship management (CRM) products from open source developer SugarCRM.
