RFID readers 'becoming more innovative'

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) readers are becoming more integrated and more innovative, a new study paper from ABI Research has suggested.

According to the analyst, RFID technologies in both the Low Frequency and High Frequency segments are being integrated into smaller devices, which enterprises can deploy to cut down on power consumption.

Similar integration is also occurring in Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID readers, which allow firms to track products, operate inventory systems, improve planning initiatives and reposition service resources.

Pete Poorman, principal analyst at ABI Research, explained that a foundation of stable, tested standards allows highly integrated readers to develop in new, innovative directions.

"These enhancements not only provide enhanced functionality and performance, but also improve manageability and lower reader costs," he added.

According to analyst Aberdeen, manufacturing firms are able to reduce their response times by 24 per cent as a result of location-enabled tools and services.
