Site Communications

BT Wholesale has developed a total site communications solution, consisting of three main propositions that are available individually or together. They cover all the communications infrastructure needed on a site (including the internal cabling, transmission equipment and the external, building-to-building connections), as well as associated systems such as Wireless LANs, routers and switches, and security applications. The three packages are: Building Communications Solutions, Structured Data Cabling Plus, Campus Network Services

Building Communications Solutions:

We offer state-of-the-art, future-proof solutions to an organisation’s complete infrastructure needs. These offer far more than just a standard communications ability. We can provide total connectivity for new buildings, including IP pathways that enable air conditioning, security, lighting, environmental control, mobile applications and power equipment to ‘talk’ to each other. Our wireless solutions are much more versatile than fixed wiring, with lower installation and maintenance costs.

Our proposition is primarily aimed at organisations that construct and operate buildings which could benefit from an integrated internal infrastructure. This includes both new builds of sophisticated, modern, high specification facilities and major refits involving a higher specification, such as:

  • Major developers
  • Architectural partnerships
  • Civil engineering consultants
  • Prime construction contractors
  • Universities, schools and colleges
  • Hospitals and other specialist buildings

Features:

This package not only provides connections between high quality voice and data equipment, but also provides command and control functions for a building’s entire infrastructure - including environment control, security and monitoring systems. The components include:

  • Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) - for WLAN installations the structured data cabling links the antennae to the customer’s communications room. We can also install the antennae and associated electronics. Our solution can include a full maintenance service.
  • Wireless applications - our package supports other mobile applications, including fixed mobile.
  • Security - our security systems include CCTV surveillance cameras, automated door entry systems and entry authentication systems. Our accredited installation service includes camera installation and maintenance.
  • Cable TV - we use RF and coaxial relay systems to deliver maximum picture quality. We can provide a communication hub to route internal and external picture sources to the customer’s in-house broadcast network. We also provide a full system maintenance service.
  • Environment control - our package supports the most appropriate air conditioning facilities.
  • IP Routers - we provide a range of routers with the power needed, install the links between the router and the infrastructure and commission the unit.
  • IP Switches - we can future-proof a company’s voice and data needs by replacing its existing voice switch with an IP or Voice over IP switch. Our full installation and commissioning service covers a wide selection of IP switch technologies.
  • Power - we can provide power systems that will meet an organisation’s current and future needs. Our service includes the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of battery and mains-powered systems of any size, and component guarantees.

Structured Data Cabling Plus:

BT can provide all your internal cabling infrastructure, plus additional facilities such as ‘intelligent patching’. This solution will usually be sold as part of a larger package, which includes other related products.

Our services encompass the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of structured data cabling systems, including the ducting, patch panels and outlets. Our engineers work to exacting standards to produce high quality installations that are guaranteed as fault-free. They are trained in both copper and fibre cable installation, and can provide a turnkey blown fibre solution.

We also provide project management and post-sales support. The latter includes maintenance, changes to the infrastructure cabling connectivity, and periodic health checks.

Features:

The Structured Data Cabling Plus package covers the cabling infrastructure within a building. We can supply and install all cabling infrastructure technologies and the associated connectivity and interface equipment. We use the most effective cable routes (e.g. under floor, behind a false ceiling, or within pre-supplied ducting). We will prepare or install the equipment, cable ducting and routes, and inter-floor cabling and communications room interconnect requirements.

We can provide a complete end-to-end capability for the delivery of SDC solutions. Once the network is installed we offer two options that enable the customer to manage their own system infrastructure - including the addition, deletion and re-allocation of network capacity:

  • A visit by an engineer - to make the changes and update the company’s records. This option will suit smaller businesses with a low churn.
  • Intelligent patching - an innovation which enables the customer to manage their own change requirements. We will install the software, an upgraded patch panel and patch cord hardware. The customer can then programme in their desired changes, and move the cords by following indicator lights. Any changes are automatically recorded onto the company’s customer records. This system is ideal for larger businesses with multiple sites and a high churn.

Campus Network Services

The Campus Network Services proposition is designed for organisations that have a number of buildings on the same site or area and need a sophisticated external infrastructure with high technology applications. This can include:

  • Universities and colleges
  • Hospitals and NHS Trusts.
  • National and local government sites
  • Industrial complexes and business parks
  • Airports, railway stations and bus stations
  • Sports stadia

BT Wholesale can provide the external cabling that interconnects buildings in the same site or area, and the associated communications solutions. This complements the other two packages by providing the external access network for buildings on the same site. Or, for example, we can connect all of a local authority’s buildings within the same town or even the same county.

Features:

Campus Network Services is a one-stop shop covering the design, installation, construction and maintenance of networks between buildings. We can also assume responsibility for site management, to avoid disruption and to maximise benefits.

  • Cabling capabilities - co-axial, copper and fibre; and the backbone connectivity between network nodes and structured data cabling (for associated internal and underground cabling projects). Our services also include security applications, cable TV systems, and a wireless laser solution where overhead or underground cables are not feasible.
  • Comprehensive technical support and post-installation services - our engineers work to exacting standards, enabling us to provide guarantees on our workmanship, as well as the manufacturers’ warranties on the equipment we supply.
  • Maximum connectivity possibilities - for example, with our campus infrastructure universities can network all their student accommodation. Our package provides the potential for new, high-bandwidth applications, and also meets any need for greater mobility.
  • Increased security, reliability, and quality of service.
