Network health check

Ensure your network is fully fit for purpose now and in the future.

Your communications infrastructure is the lifeblood of your business. So you need to be confident that it is operating flawlessly and  is also capable of meeting the demands placed on it in the future. If it is not, you could face disruption to your business as well as possible loss of revenue and customers.

A BT Network Health Check will help you to plan and implement any necessary remedial action while helping you budget for both capital investment and planned maintenance.

The Network Health Check covers every aspect of your network at single and multiple sites including underground and overhead copper and fibre cabling, joints, fibre splicing and terminations, route fabrication and internal cabling. Where necessary, we can supply staff with recognised security clearance, including DV and SC classification.

Complete screening

An exhaustive BT Network Health Check can not only keep your network up and running but can also act as an invaluable tool for planning both capital investment and routine maintenance.
By gauging your ability to remain operationally effective and highlighting potential points of failure, the Network Health Check will enable you to take immediate remedial action and thus avoid downtime in the short or long term. Budgeting for planned maintenance will also be easier.

The Network Health Check will also provide you with recommendations for where you can make significant savings by rationalising parts of your network.

The BT Network Health Check consists of three elements:

  • The site survey - we start by reviewing any available diagrams, defining the content and layout of the network and determining the cable entry points at which it joins the public or carrier network. Establishing the capacity, length, route and points of intervention enables us to submit a plan and estimate for your approval.
  • Network Health Check audits - on approval of the estimate, our network consultant will inspect every level of your network. That includes making visual checks along the cable routes, carrying out sample circuit tests on each cable route throughout the length, opening joint boxes, checking for secure and watertight joint closures and checking overhead cabling.
Tests will also be run for any faults and conditions likely to cause future problems including resistance to earth, resistance between cable pairs and corrosion of battery contacts.
Our network consultant will assess the condition of all external plant types, copper and fibre cabling, overhead cabling, poling and jointing against exhaustive checklists.
  • Post Network Health Check audit report - our written report will include the results from the sample tests carried out on each cable and details of problems such as damp, corrosion and earthing; details of any network elements that are currently sound but may cause problems in the future due to incorrect installation, damage or other factors; recommendations for cost-effective solutions to any of the problems that have been identified.

Once the Network Health Check report has been completed we will be happy to help you plan and implement any necessary remedial action, drawing on our comprehensive portfolio of network build engineering services. Where appropriate, we can work from the Network Health Check report to provide a total communications solution.
