We serve virtually every one of the 600+ organisations currently operating in the UK communications marketplace. So by equipping them to equip people with the ability to communicate with each other in fresh, innovative and affordable ways through a wide variety of different devices, we can be confident of being able to reach and embrace even the most underprivileged groups in UK society.
Equally, by making major investments every year on behalf of our wholesale customers in research and development, we are creating for them and for ourselves a future that’s focused on more environmentally friendly and energy-saving products and services for their customers and for the operation of their own businesses.
Our multi-billion investment in the creation of the UK’s 21st century network – 21CN – is an excellent tangible example of this. Through the convergence of technologies and the simplification of BT’s UK network we will be removing the duplication of the equipment used to provide voice and broadband services: a factor that’s forecast to cut network power consumption by as much as 30% – and this is only the beginning of the potential savings.
This commitment to CSR – our ‘corporate social responsibility’ – is evident not only in BT Wholesale but in all the companies in the BT Group. Our achievements in this field are recognised internationally as shown by the fact that BT has been rated the world’s no. 1 telecommunications company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for 6 years running.
